Earth Day 2017 with Channel 4 at Somerset House

We love working with Channel 4 and catering their vibrant events season, be it the annual Talent Party, the Formula One pre-season event or the launch of their Paralympic coverage – no two events are ever the same. When we were tasked to cater the Somerset House “Western Flag” launch – Channel 4’s specially commissioned installation to commemorate Earth Day 2017, we knew our green credentials would take centre stage.

The awesome but challenging installation by renowned artist John Gerrard featured a virtual simulation of a flag formed by endlessly pumped plumes of thick, black smoke. Its silent presentation on a massive LED screen contrasting with the 18th century splendour of the Fountain Court was at once breath taking and disturbing.

Our approach was a masterclass in sustainable catering practise.

Embracing the “Zero Waste” ideology which seeks to use ingredients in their entirety, our menu was 80% plant based and the little fish or meat which did appear were responsibly sourced.  “Carrot gnocchi with carrot top, walnut pesto and burrata”, “Beetroot tatin with sweet cicely salsa verde” were followed by an unctuous “Vegan cocoa mousse, with lemon skin and wild strawberry”

All drinks were English including wine from the award-winning Three Choirs Vineyard in Gloucestershire and Toast Ale, an innovative craft beer which is brewed with surplus fresh artisan bread left over in bakeries that would otherwise be binned.  We also eschewed bottled water for jugged tap water with a zesty English Rhubarb and Orange cordial for the non-drinkers.

Our client was delighted

Last night was great, please pass on my thanks to the team, they were absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much.
