Kinky Boots the Musical – Premiere Party

We love a gig with a menu that includes Beetroot leather, “Divine Clangers,” Drag Queen of Puddings and Sugar Tarts with a fishnet tuille.

No, it’s not Dame Edna’s coronation (but we’re all up for that) but the First Night Party for Kinky Boots, the new West End Musical with music written by 80’s legend Cyndi Lauper.

IMG_5620 The plot of Kinky Boots takes you from the factory floor to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. A Northampton shoe factory is struggling for survival—as their sales of handmade brogues are on the skids. Help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous drag queen in need of some sturdy new stilettos.

This was a gig that had Zaff’s name all over it, food, performance, passion and a liberal sprinkling of red glitter. After watching a “perk of the job” dress rehearsal we came back fizzing with loads of ideas to make the 1st night party go with a bang.

We themed the menu as ‘Northampton meets Milan’.

Northampton grub was greeted greedily, spicy sausages rolls, little fish pies and the delicious “Divine Clanger” a regional type of pasty we filled with slow cooked shortrib of beef. We made some “beetroot” leather bundling up goat’s cheese & pickled veg and truffled chicken casserole with puff pastry boots. The Milan food stall took a typically glamorous Italian flavour, grilled sea bass with gnochetti, anti pasti salads with marinated aubergines, courgettes, tomatoes and mozzarella.

The party was in full “luvvie swing” with Cyndi Lauper in a glamourous red Westwood number and celeb spotting of Graham Norton, theatre impresario Sir Cameron Mackintosh, dishy diver Tom Daley and Beverley Knight.

Usherette Desserts ended the evening on a theatrical note with waitresses dressed in head to toe red glitter serving up Drag Queen of puddings with crackle candy, rainbow chocolate lipsticks served in little shoe boxes.

It was a ripper of a night, doing what Zaff does best; a totally flamboyant and deliciously decadent 1st night party.
