The Dark Side Of The Spoon; the Apollo hosts the Event Awards

The Eventim Apollo – one of London’s most iconic venues – has just become the hottest new event venue on the scene. On 14 October, Zafferano catered the first ever large-scale dinner within its hallowed musical walls. The Event Awards are our Industry’s benchmark for premium events and brand experiences, and like those who’d brought the Apollo house down before us, we gave it everything.

The dress code was rock ‘n’ roll icons. Inside the Apollo’s art deco enclaves team Zaff prepared a three course dinner plus canapés for 600 of the industry’s great and good. We kicked off proceedings with the ultimate snacks from every band’s rider; pizza and beer! We served mini avocado, chilli and manchego pizzas, red onion and enoki mushroom, cashel blue and roasted pear, and fig and mozzarella, alongside chilli cheese straws in miniature pint glasses.

The Zafferano headline ‘set’ opened with “The Cure”, a starter of sweet-cured Scottish salmon, with textures of autumn vegetables, mustard and fromage blanc. For mains, crowd-pleasers all round, with a beef daube (a delicious Provençal French stew) and loin, wild mushroom pithivier, potato mousseline and textures of onion. Rumour has it Prince lookalike was sharing his vegetarian chestnut and parsnip pie, Shetland potato dauphinoise, fermented red cabbage and hazelnut pesto with Madonna!

And what does a rock star have for dessert?

Guests (and twitter!) were in raptures over “Dark Side of the Spoon” darksideofthespoon

a white chocolate sphere filled with Black Forest mousse and a rainbow tuille. Syd Barrett would have been proud!

Being chosen as the catering partner for one of the world’s premier event awards was a great honour and responsibility, and like all great performers our team rose boldly to the occasion.
