Dark Side Of The Spoon – Pink Floyd at the V&A

Here at Zaff HQ we are never happier than when we are sinking our teeth into a juicy event brief, so when we were tasked by our adventurous corporate client to create an event around the V&A’s latest blockbuster exhibition “Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains” we knew that we could have a bit of fun.

Our chefs channelled their inner Prog-Rock god, dusted off their album covers and created a collection of bespoke Pink Floyd canapes including “Sauce Full of Secrets” Gazpacho Bubble, “Wish You Were Here – Have a Cigar” Foie Gras and Cherry Cigarillo with Malt Ash, and the genius “Momentary Lapse of Reason” Fish Fingers and Custard (aka delicious sole goujons with a delicate vanilla hollandaise!)

Our cleverly styled Food Stalls payed homage to 2 of the most iconic album covers. “The Wall” served a gourmet take on 1970s school dinners with Chicken Drummers, Truffled Mayo, Rare Beef Bonbons, Potato Puree, Cream of Tomato Ketchup, Sausage and Black Pudding Plait.

“Obscurred by Clouds” was a London Smokery Stall serving Soft Poached Salmon, Smoked Butter, Asparagus, Fennel and Blood Orange Salad, Smoked Duck Rillettes, Pickled Cucumber Relish, Pea and Mint Panna Cotta, Baby Peas and Smoked Ricotta.

Cocktails were served from light bulb glasses in honour of the infamous “Delicate Sound of Thunder” artwork, and our barmen and waiting staff were given a night off formality, wearing jeans, sneakers and Pink Floyd T-Shirts. Happy days!

We couldn’t resist re-creating our infamous “Dark Side of the Spoon” dessert as a canape, which was served alongside Psychedelic Salted Caramel Whoopie Pies and Zabaglione Milk Shakes.

We were also tasked with providing en-point entertainment to complement the event design and exhibition. Courtesy of our friends at Sternberg Clarke we created a rolling entertainment programme including a strolling acoustic band (playing Pink Floyd covers of course) Digital Magician, Ibiza DJ and a duo of strolling costumed entertainers who provided a suitably surreal tone to the evening.
